VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT 

Hazlehurst, Mississippi 

Seeking a Visionary Leader Committed to Academic Excellence 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Hazlehurst City School District Board of Trustees invites qualified educational leaders to apply for the position of Superintendent of Education. The Superintendent serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the district and is responsible for implementing Board policy, ensuring compliance with Mississippi law and State Board of Education regulations, and leading the district toward continuous academic excellence. 

MANDATORY LEGAL & BOARD QUALIFICATIONS 

● Must meet all certification and experience requirements established under Mississippi Code §37-9-13. 

● Must hold or be eligible for a valid Mississippi Superintendent Educator License. 

● Must satisfy all Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) requirements. 

● Must have served successfully as a principal for a minimum of three (3) years in an 'A' or 'B' rated school or school District 

BOARD-DEFINED QUALIFICATIONS 

● Documented record of increasing student achievement for ALL students. 

● Experience in a diverse school district. 

● Ability to use data to improve academic performance. 

● Knowledge of strategic planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.

● Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. 

● Support for athletics, band, arts, and extracurricular activities. 

● Successful school finance, budgeting, monitoring, and reporting experience. 

● Ability to recruit, retain, mentor, and evaluate highly qualified personnel.

● Collaborative leadership style with strong communication skills. 

● Knowledge of Mississippi education law and accountability
