Eighth Grade ELA Rocks!
My name is Carolyn Smith and I am your student’s 8th grade ELA instructor. I am a graduate of Jackson State University with a Master of Arts degree in Sociology (Alcohol and Drug Emphasis) and a Master of Teaching degree. I am a Mississippi native who moved away to pursue life’s offerings and moved back to the state with my family. The roles of being a parent, student, and instructor are not foreign to me as I have occupied those roles – and still do to some degree. I am more than elated to work with your student at the Hazlehurst Middle School.
It is my intention to enhance your student’s English skill set through daily classroom activities, homework, and assessments. I firmly believe that ALL students can and will perform well when given the proper tools. Reading, writing, speaking and much more will be introduced and taught fervently during class times. Literary works, authors and various types of reading excerpts will also be introduced to expand the student’s critical thinking skills and to diversify their knowledge of literature.
Collaboratively, parents and instructors can insure that students will receive a quality education that will benefit them throughout their educational career. Please do not hesitate to call and/or schedule a conference with me. Your student’s academic success is very important to me and I will do all that I can to make sure that they are adequately learning the required materials. Periodically, information will be sent home concerning your student. Please review the information and discuss it with your student as needed. I look forward to meeting and working with you to make sure your student is successful and equipped to progress to the next level with confidence.
Again, I am very proud to be your student’s English Language Arts instructor and I look forward to meeting with you soon.
